Thank You for all of your support!

Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann is finishing his third term (12 years) and is in his twenty seventh (27th) year as a prosecutor. DA Budelmann said, “It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your District Attorney.”
DA Budelmann reported, “It has been a very busy twelve years. Between 2007 and 2008 Cayuga County experienced a 39% increase in felony arrests, including a 51% increase in violent felony arrests. The obvious result was more investigations, litigation, hearings, grand jury indictments, felony trials and the appeals that followed.”

“This Office has secured hundreds of felony convictions and lengthy sentences for killers, child molesters, drug dealers, and other dangerous criminals. We faced some tough challenges in the past 12 years including a series of Domestic Violence homicides in our quiet County. This Office was also challenged with the imposition of the new Drug Dealer Protection Act of 2009 (Paterson Drug Laws), which allowed for judicial diversion (which completely removes the People from the equation), sealing of prior convictions, resentencing for violent drug dealers, and early release of convicted felons from prison.”

“This Office continues to persevere and move beyond these challenges, rising to the occasion to protect our community. While some of the faces have changed over the years we are staffed with an aggressive team of experienced, tried and tested, veteran prosecutors and professional support staff. We are ready, willing, and able to continue to protect our community from the violence and illegal activity that continues to endanger this State and Country, and which seeks to move here as well.”

Starting January 1, 2020 the Governor and State Legislature essentially eliminated the possibility of bail in most cases, gave defendants the right to complete immediate (within 2 weeks of arraignment) discovery, and increased the Speedy Trial burden on all cases. District Attorney Budelmann indicated that he is eager to meet the upcoming challenges facing our community head on. I will continue my commitment to keep our community safe. I am grateful for this community’s continued support.”

Very truly yours,

Jon E. Budelmann
